Sweatin’ On: New Kit
I do love taking a vacation, especially when said vacation can be combined with a work trip and I can spend a solid two weeks in the UK visiting with friends and family, admiring the beauty of Highclere Castle, and grinning non-stop as I walk down Diagon Alley. While I was across the pond I hit up my favorite British workout brand Sweaty Betty and stopped by the Lorna Jane pop up store in Covent Garden. My suitcase was bursting with new kit, which I needed to kick my ass into gear and burn off the calories I consumed eating banoffee pie, the most delicious dessert on the planet. Here’s a few reviews on some workout wear from across the pond and beyond.
I was fortunate to visit Sweaty Betty while much of the store was on sale and they were starting to put out their autumn goods. I nabbed a few things (and introduced my sister-in-law to the brand and she loves it because we are family) including the Barbican Long Sleeve Top, the Columbia Tank, and the Sirsha 2 in 1 Yoga Tank. The long sleeve top and purple tank are made of super soft cotton. I wore them both on the long flight home to Boston, and then straight to the new Core Power Yoga studio that opened up in my hood. The long sleeve top is cropped and can be cinched (just cinch it!) in the front, which makes it perfect for layering. The purple tank has a higher cut neckline which I like, and the top layer flows loose, which I needed as I didn’t read carefully enough to notice that the yoga class was heated.
I am pretty sure that Lululemon pioneered the sports bra-and-loose-tank-in-one combo, but other brands are making their own versions. Sweaty Betty’s take is unique from others I’ve tried in that the top layer is patterned (with a cool cosmos print) and slightly sheer. This should have been the top I wore to the sweaty yoga class. I love the cosmos print so much I ordered the leggings. When they arrive I will love them even more and introduce them to my Black Milk galaxy leggings.
I’d like to get to know the Australian brand Lorna Jane a bit better, so I was pumped to discover that they opened up a pop up shop in Covent Garden last week! I stopped by and picked up the Fleur Run Jacket and a shirt that looks an awful lot like the Balance Excel Top on their website. I’ve had my eye on that jacket for a while now and the print is even better in person. The jacket has a nice, light weight and a hood (nothing bugs me more than waterproof jackets that don’t have a hood- come on!), so I plan on taking it with me to SF next week where the weather is unpredictable. I’m all about workout tops with short sleeves that have a flattering fit, so I was down with the Balance Excel Top. I gave it a whirl at a BarreCore class (my studio away from home when I’m in London) and was pleased with the fit and design.
It was a treat to find the new Nike & Liberty of London collection at a shoe boutique in London. I have a hard time saying no to something with a Liberty print on it, so I happily added to my Nike & Liberty collection. The patterns are pixelated (something new for Liberty), which make the shoes look like they are covered in confetti (a good thing). I’m happily cruising all over town in these kicks!
